Sidespin is most commonly seen in serves in the sport of table tennis. It forces your opponent to go in defensive mode and gives you the advantage over them for that point. You have to move the racket either away or towards your body while it is in contact with the ball in order to apply sidespin. If the left or right side of the ball is rotating away from you it is left or right sidespin.
